Jimmy Hayes is Moving to Kongiganak

New Principal Jimmy Hayes Kongiganak: Jimmy Hayes lives in Nunapaitchuk and he is a vice principal. And next year he is moving to Kongiganak to be a new site administrator.
Mr. Hayes along with his wife Hannah and 2 daughters, Gracie and Anna, are going to be moving to Kong for the 2017-18 school year. Mr. Hayes was born in Greenville, Mississippi, and has lived thought out the south and parts of the Midwest before moving to Alaska. Also before he was moving up here he was a high school science teacher. In the past he has been a school counselor and a junior high math and science teacher.

Hayes said he and his wife wanted to get away from the high crime rates they were living in. “We are outdoorsy people and love to be in quiet and pristine nature. We also enjoy hunting, fishing, and foraging.” He also said they wanted an opportunity for their children to grow up knowing about other cultures. “It seemed that Alaska was calling to us.” stated Hayes.

Hayes hasn’t been here very long, but his finding that he loves to talk to people and find out about traditional ways of hunting, fishing, and preparing these foods. He feels that community involvement is very important for the school and the staff, himself included. Hayes wants for his family to connect to the community. He intends to see what is working and talk to the staff about changes that might wants be needed. During the summer, Hayes will go back down south to visit his parents and his wife’s parents for a couple of weeks each. Then Mr. Hayes will fly back up here on July 12th to settle in and maybe get to do some berry picking, fishing, and visiting with people before the school year starts back. Mr. Hayes sold all of his belongings except for his car and the things he brought up with when he moved. So this area is home for the Hayes family now.
